Brief Description:  EAA Tech Counselor visit

I had nutserts on the windshield strap, but the head of the nutserts left a gap between the strap and upper firewall, a potential source of leakage from forward of the firewall. I removed the nutserts and installed nutplates with flush rivets. The cowl screws will still use the nutserts because the head of the nutsets are flush with the top of the trap. According to the plans. the cowl screws into the strap are optional. The Sonex prototype has no screws along the top of the cowling.

Continued fitting the forward windshield. Drilled with #40 and clecoed. After trimming the aft portion of the windshield I'll do the final updrilling and countersinking for the top screws.

Had a visit from Rich Desmond tonight, our local EAA Technical Councelor. I've known Rich for many years, going back to when we had some local EAA chapters. I thought it was a good idea to get some experienced eyes on the project, and Rich was the perfect guy. We looked at all my completed work, fuselage, outboard wings, empennage, instrument panel, flap/brake controls, control stick assembly, wing fold and lock mechanisms, aileron paddle assemblies, and misc other small components. Rich was impressed with the quality of the kit components and commented on the "EAA Technical Counselor Visit Report" that the "fit, finish and workmanship very good". Always nice to hear that, gives you a bit of warm & fuzzy that the plane might actually fly. I really appreciate Rich's volunteer work to spend the time to review and discuss the project. He let me know he is just a phone call away if I have any questions. A big THANK YOU to Rich. I'm sure I'll be seeing more of him as the work continues.
